TYPOGRAPHIC APPLICATION
A selection of handcrafted and digital designs exploring typographic studies.

No animals were harmed during the design process, although the same can't be said for my 'special occasion hair extensions' that were unceremoniously chopped up and stuffed into florist foam letters to create the word HAIR. Digital toupees were created in Photoshop and used to cover any "thin" areas.

Confetti and Lace is an example of handcrafted typography. The C of the confetti was made by arranging confetti into the shape of a C, I then photographed the image and digitally manipulated it in Photoshop. The rest of the word is handwritten and digitally enhanced in the same way as the letter C.
Lace was created by scanning actual lace and using the image to create an overlay that gives the font its lacy appearance.

Having been inspired by the beautiful quilled images of Yulia Brodskaya, I decided I’d like to learn the basic technique to create an image that conveyed the essence of autumn.
I began by making a paper frame to form the letters. I quilled hundreds of tight paper coils that I then packed tightly into the frame; the red to yellow gradient effect is achieved by using different coloured papers. I then quilled marquise and spiral shapes to form the leaves. Once finished, I edited the lighting digitally to achieve a more autumnal, shadowy effect.
